Regardless of whether we are designing lighting for a garden, hotel area, housing estate, park or historic area, the principles are similar. Safety and ease of movement should be the priority.
Here are a few rules for arranging outdoor lighting:
Define the objectives
Consider what you want to achieve, what the area is for and what functions it will fulfil. Who is it for? Is it a recreational area, a place to relax or for various activities, or do you simply want to emphasise certain architectural elements or plants?
Choose the right lamps
Outdoor lighting does not have to be boring. It is worth remembering the rules similar to those used indoors and to achieve the right lighting effects, use three types of lighting: general, task and decorative. General lighting ensures that the space is evenly lit, task lighting is used for specific functions (e.g. lighting the path to the building) and decorative lighting is used to highlight a particular architectural feature or plant. Once the lighting functions have been planned in this way, the lamps are selected according to the principle of choosing lanterns, which can be placed, for example, in the corners of the property, or a series of lighting poles along the path to the entrance of the building.

Highlight the architecture
To emphasise architectural elements such as facades, columns, arches, sculptures or plants, you need to use suitable lamps that direct the light onto the selected element, creating interesting visual effects. With the right intensity and colour of light, you can highlight a specific element of the facade or emphasise colours and shapes.
Rest area
If you have a terrace, patio or other place to relax not only in front of your house, but also in front of a hotel or restaurant, an interesting solution would be to use additional decorative lighting to create the right atmosphere and encourage people to stop, relax and rest, while taking advantage of other attractions of the place. Also remember at this point the impact on the environment of the right choice of light colour. Warm light promotes relaxation, while cold light adds energy and stimulates activity.

Safety
This is one of the most important aspects when arranging any space, both indoors and outdoors. Ensuring safe access to the front door, garage or parked car, moving along the road or simply walking in the park, using the playground, outdoor gym and other such places requires the use of lamps that will illuminate the way and enable the use of the area.
Choosing the right lamps is essential and significantly increases comfort, safety and functionality both inside and outside buildings.
